Norm Li (Chinese:李永畧[1]) is a Canadiancinematographer.[2] For his work on the filmThe Body Remembers When the World Broke Open (2019), Li won theCanadian Screen Award forBest Cinematography.[3]
Li is most noted for his work on the filmThe Body Remembers When the World Broke Open, for which he won theCanadian Screen Award forBest Cinematography at the8th Canadian Screen Awards in 2020.[3] He was previously nominated in the same category at the6th Canadian Screen Awards in 2018 forNever Steady, Never Still,[4] and won the Canadian Screen Award for Best Photography in a Documentary Program or Series at the4th Canadian Screen Awards in 2016 forTricks on the Dead: The Story of the Chinese Labour Corps in WWI.
His other credits have included the filmsBeyond the Black Rainbow (2010),Below Zero (2011),In Their Skin (2012),Afflicted (2013),Cabin Fever: Patient Zero (2014),Edge of Winter (2016),Hollow in the Land (2017)[5] andSame Old (2022).
Li won aBloodie Award for his cinematography work onBeyond the Black Rainbow at the 2012Blood in the Snow Canadian Film Festival.[6]
Li also won acclaim for his work onSeagrass (2023).[citation needed]
OfHong Kong Chinese descent, Li was raised inNewfoundland and Labrador, and is currently based inVancouver,British Columbia.[2]
