TheNorfolk Women's cricket team is the women's representativecricket team for the Englishhistoric county ofNorfolk. They play their home games at various grounds across the county, and are captained by Ellie Stanley.[1] In 2019, they played in Division Three of the final season of theWomen's County Championship, and have since competed in theWomen's Twenty20 Cup.[2] They are partnered with the regional sideSunrisers.[3]
Norfolk Women joined the national women's cricket structure in2002, as part of the Emerging Counties division: in their first season they played two games, winning one and losing one.[4] The topped the Emerging Counties league in2003, and joined the County Challenge Cup in2004.[2] Norfolk have consistently played in the lower levels of theWomen's County Championship, although they did gain promotions in2008 and2015.[2] In recent years, they have played in Division 3 of the Championship.[1]
Norfolk have performed similarly in theWomen's Twenty20 Cup, having always played in the bottom tier of the competition since2010.[2] Their most successful season was in2017, when they won five of their eight games.[5] In 2020, after the cancellation of the planned season due to theCOVID-19 pandemic, Norfolk competed in theEast of England Championship.[6] In 2021, they competed in the East Group of theTwenty20 Cup, but finished bottom with no wins, as well as finishing 5th in the East of England Championship.[7][8] They again finished bottom of their group in the2022 Women's Twenty20 Cup, and finished sixth out of seven in the East of England Championship.[9][10] They finished third in their group in the2023 Women's Twenty20 Cup, before finishing fifth out of six in the East of England Championship.[11][12] In 2024, the side finished 5th in their group in theTwenty20 Cup and 8th in their group in the newECB Women's County One-Day tournament.[13][14]
