He first appeared in the 1978 filmSuperman, portrayed byJack O'Halloran, and first appeared in comics inAction Comics #845 (January 2007). Anaccomplice ofGeneral Zod and an adversary of thesuperheroSuperman, he is typically depicted as having been imprisoned in thePhantom Zone along with Zod andUrsa, among whom he is portrayed as the strong and silent muscle.

In television, the character was portrayed byChris Vance in theArrowverse seriesSupergirl.

Non is a muteKryptonian criminal and ally ofGeneral Zod andUrsa who was imprisoned alongside them in thePhantom Zone following a failed coup againstKrypton's government. InSuperman II, afterSuperman throws ahydrogen bomb into Earth's orbit, he unknowingly creates a rift that enables the three to escape. They battle Superman before he eventually depowers them with red sunlight and imprisons them in theFortress of Solitude.

Non made his comic debut inAction Comics, written byGeoff Johns andSuperman directorRichard Donner. This version is a former member of Krypton's Science Council and friend ofJor-El who was captured andlobotomized after leading a separatist movement.[1] However, he maintains a degree of his original personality and is friends with Ursa and Zod's sonLor-Zod.

Powers and abilities

Non possesses the average abilities of a Kryptonian, including superhuman strength, speed, flight, super-vision, and super-hearing. However, he is vulnerable toKryptonite and red sun radiation, and can be exploited due to his low intelligence.

  • Non appears inSupergirl, portrayed byChris Vance. This version is the husband and second-in-command ofAstra In-Ze and uncle ofSupergirl.[2][3] Years prior to the series and Krypton's destruction, Non and Astra led a separatist movement on Krypton before being imprisoned in the Phantom Zone via the maximum security prison, Fort Rozz. After Supergirl's pod was lost in the Phantom Zone and crash-landed on Earth, it took Fort Rozz with it, allowingIndigo to instigate a prison break and leading to Astra's forces undergoing a crusade to save Earth from humanity, only to be hunted by theDepartment of Extranormal Operations (DEO). When Supergirl grows up and joins the DEO to help re-apprehend the escapees, Non pressures Astra to accelerate her plans until she is killed byAlex Danvers. In response, Non takes command of her remaining forces, joins forces with Indigo, and sets out to do Astra's bidding by using Project Myriad, a Kryptonian program that enables mass mind control and negates hopeful thoughts, to destroy the craniums of every human on Earth, only to be foiled by Supergirl andMartian Manhunter.[4]
  • Non appears in theDC Super Hero Girls two-part episode "#DCSuperHeroBoys". This version was imprisoned in the Phantom Zone byAlura Zor-El.
