Nol de Ruiter (6 April 1940 – 21 May 2025) was a Dutchfootball coach and player, who played as adefender.
Born inUtrecht, De Ruiter played football for local sides DOS, Velox and USV Elinkwijk. The three clubs merged in 1970 to form the professionalFC Utrecht.[1] He played as adefender.[2]
After retiring as a player, De Ruiter began his coaching career as an assistant toJan Remmers atN.E.C.. He later succeeded Remmers at the helm atFC Den Bosch and managed a number of other Dutch club sides includingCambuur,FC Wageningen,Veendam,[3]FC Utrecht[4] andADO Den Haag.[5] As manager he led Utrecht to victory in the1984–85 KNVB Cup.[6] De Ruiter also managed the national sides ofthe Netherlands andEgypt. He was assistant to managerRinus Michels when theOranje won their first and only major championship theUEFA Euro 1988 in West Germany.[7]
De Ruiter was married to Nel and his son-in-lawFoeke Booy is a football manager and former player who married his daughter Wendy.[8]
De Ruiter died on 21 May 2025, at the age of 85.[9]
