No. 191 Squadron was aRoyal Air Force squadron. DuringWorld War I it was a non-operational night training unit, while duringWorld War II it was engaged in maritime reconnaissance.[1]
No. 191 Squadron was formed atRAF Marham on 6 November 1917 as a night training squadron,[4] operating amongst others theRoyal Aircraft Factory FE.2bs and FE.2ds. The squadron moved toRAF Upwood in 1918 and was disbanded there in January 1919.[1][2]
The squadron was re-formed on 13 May 1943 atKorangi Creek, India. The squadron operated theConsolidated Catalina to patrol thePersian Gulf and the westernIndian Ocean.[1][2]The squadron moved toRed Hills Lake, India in November 1944. The Catalina's continued to carry out anti-submarine patrols and meteorological flights. The squadron disbanded on 15 June 1945 atRAF Koggala,Ceylon.[1][2]
