Niuafo'ou plate

TheNiuafoʻou plate is a smalltectonic plate located west of the islands ofTonga in the region of theLau Basin. This plate is sandwiched between thePacific plate to the north, the very unstableTonga plate to the east and theAustralian plate to the west. It is primarily surrounded bydivergent boundaries. This plate is riddled with activefaults thus making the area extremely earthquake prone.
