TheNissan Rasheen (Japanese:日産・ラシーン,Hepburn:Nissan Rashīn) is acompact crossover SUV withfour-wheel drive capabilities produced from November 1994 to August 2000 byNissan. It is a five-seater with a rugged, quirky and angularly styled five-door body.
A prototype was first shown at theOctober 1993 Tokyo Motor Show. The car's design was often compared[by whom?] with Eastern European cars in design, particularly theWartburg 353, but is also reminiscent of Nissan's "Pike" cars (Be-1,Pao,Figaro, andS-Cargo). As for the Be-1 and Figaro, production of the Rasheen was carried out by contract manufacturer Takada Kogyo. It was exclusive to Nissan Japanese dealership network calledNissan Red Stage. By August 2000 production had come to a halt, amidst the restructuring followingCarlos Ghosn's "Nissan Revival Plan", with a total production of 72,793 units. The model was replaced byNissan X-Trail.[dubious –discuss]
The Rasheen shared its platform with theNissan Sunny (B14), including adopting the chassisNB14. Rasheen also used powertrain components from theNissan Pulsar (N14) with four-wheel drive.
The model was offered with three differentinline-four gasoline engines. Originally it was only available with a 105 PS (77 kW) 1.5-literGA15DE gasoline engine, the 125 PS (92 kW) 1.8-literSR18DE engine was added to the lineup in January 1997, only available with the automatic transmission.[2] After having been shown at the1997 Tokyo Motor Show, the Rasheen Forza was added in July 1998, featuring a 2.0-literSR20DE 145 PS (107 kW) engine.
The Rasheen had full-time four wheel drive, Nissan'sATTESA powertrain system. This is aviscous coupling that determines where to send torque based on traction situations.Anti-lock brakes were introduced September 1996 along with various trim packages introduced during the production period.
