Nipun Avinash Dharmadhikari[1] (born in 1987) is a Marathi writer, actor, and director.[2][3] He is known for the revival of Sangeet Natak (Musicals) and long five act plays.[4]

Early life and personal life

Dharmadhikari's early education was in a convent school. He started learning classical music when he was 8.[5] His first contact with arts came when he did an impromptu performance of the Marathi play,Varhad Nighalay London La in front of his class, in school. The teachers found out and he then began performing for annual days and other public events.[6] He was a student ofBrihan Maharashtra College of Commerce, where he was studying to become a chartered accountant.[2][7] In 2003, Dharmadhikari started acting in plays forPurushottam Karandak, Pune's intercollegiate theatre competition.[8] He has also participated inZee Karandak.[7]

He is married to singer Sanhita Chandorkar.

Career

He startedNatak Company along withAmey Wagh,Parna Pethe and few students from Brihan Maharashtra College of Commerce and Fergusson college in 2008, which produces Marathi plays.[4] His maiden venture was the playCycle, where he directedAmey Wagh.[9] In 2009, he was seen in the Marathi film,Harishchandrachi Factory.[10] He went on to direct two plays, the first one beingLose Control, which dealt with sexual fantasies of three teenagers;[8] while the second one wasNever Mind, starringSpruha Joshi.[5] In 2013, Dharmadhikari also wrote for the Hindi romantic comedy-drama film,Nautanki Saala!.[3][11]

In 2015, Dharmadhikari was also featured in Forbes India's 30 under 30 list.[8] In the same year, he was also seen inHighway, where he was seen playing a football fan.[12] He was again featured on Forbes Asia's 30 under 30 list in 2016.[13] He hosts the satirical talk showCasting Couch with Amey & Nipun on the YouTube channel,Bharatiya Digital Party, which started the same year.[14][15] He made his marathi movie directorial debut throughBaapjanma(2017).[16] He also went on to direct the national award winning film,Dhappa.[17] He was the guest of honour atVinodottam Karandak in 2017.[18] He has also directed award winning plays likeSharam Gayi Toh, 36 andDalan.[7] In 2022, he directed the Marathi playAdlay Ka…?, starringParna Pethe and Atul Pethe, based on the original workDie Besetzung (The Occupation) by Swiss writerCharles Lewinsky and translated by Shaunak Chandorkar.
