Nippon Fujin (Japanese:日本婦人,romanized: Japanese Women) was a Japanese political magazine targeting women.[1] The magazine was one of the best-selling magazines duringWorld War II inJapan.[2] It existed between 1942 and 1945.
Nippon Fujin was started in 1942 by a women's organization,Dai Nippon Kokubo Fujinkai (Japanese: Greater Japan Women Association).[3][4] The association was apatriotic and nationalist women's organization.[5] The first issue appeared in November 1942.[6] The magazine was published on a monthly basis.[3] It contained nationalistpropaganda material during the wartime.[4] German historian Andrea Germer argues that visual propaganda materials included inNippon Fujin are closely similar to those inFrauen Warte, one of theNazi periodicals targeting women.[7]Nippon Fujin folded in January 1945 after producing twenty-four issues.[4][6]
