Shikanji is a lemon-based drink popular in thePunjab region of northernIndia andPakistan.[1]

It is based onSekanjabin, a traditional Persian sweet-and-sour syrup. In the 10th century, physicianIbn Sina wrote about its health benefits in a manuscript "Benefits of the drink called Sekanjabin"[2]

Alternative names includeshikanjvi,shikanjbi andshikanjbeen. Shikanji is distinct from lemonade, and often contains other ingredients such assalt,saffron andcumin.[3]
