Nilambur Road railway station (station code: NIL) is an NSG–5 categoryIndian railway station inPalakkad railway division ofSouthern Railway zone.[2] It is a railway terminus serving the town ofNilambur in theMalappuram district ofKerala, India. It is the station for the Shoranur–Nilambur Road spur rail line of Palakkad Division ofSouthern Railways. Trains halting at the station connect the town to prominent cities in Kerala, such as Palakkad, Thrissur, Ernakulam , Kottayam, and Thiruvananthapuram.[3]
TheNilambur–Shoranur line is a spur line of theSouthern Railway Zone inKerala state and one of the shortestbroad-gauge railway lines in India and the only terminus railway station in Kerala.[4] It is a single electrified line with 66 kilometres (41 mi) length running from Shoranur Junction (inPalakkad district) to Nilambur railway station (inMalappuram district).[4] This station is 4 km from the town ofNilambur on theKozhikode–Ooty highway.[4] Shoranur–Nilambur Road passenger trains ply this route.[4]It is 40 kilometres (25 mi) away fromMalappuram town.[5]
