Nik Walker (born 28 November 1987) is an American actor and performer. He has co-starred in theBroadway productions ofHamilton andSpamalot playingAaron Burr and Sir Dennis Galahad, respectively.[1]

Early life and education

Walker was raised inBoston, Massachusetts, and has spoken publicly about how the city's history and culture influenced him as an artist.[2] His mother,Liz Walker, was a popular news anchor forWBZ-TV in Boston before becoming a minister. Having never married, her pregnancy with Nik became headlines and drew criticism from religious leaders who felt she was setting a negative example for youth.[3][4]

Walker attendedNYU Tisch School of the Arts and graduated in 2010.[5]

Career

Walker's earlyBroadway credits includeHamilton (understudy for several supporting male roles and later as Aaron Burr),[6]Ain't Too Proud,[7] andMotown the Musical.[8]

In 2008, Walker portrayed the Balladeer in theBoston Center for the Arts production ofAssassins. The following year he was Benjamin Coffin III inRent at theHangar Theatre. He returned toRent as Tom Collins in 2011 with thePioneer Theatre Company. Later that year he portrayed John inMiss Saigon at theOgunquit Playhouse. He starred as the Wolf and Cinderella's Prince oppositeDanielle Ferland in theWestport Country Playhouse andCenter Stage production ofInto the Woods.[9]

Walker made his Broadway debut in 2013 when he joined the cast ofMotown: The Musical. He then joined the Broadway cast ofHamilton as an ensemble member and understudy for Aaron Burr, George Washington, and Hercules Mulligan/James Madison.[10] He performed in national touring companies for bothMotown the Musical (as Ensemble) andHamilton (as Burr).[11]

In 2020, he joined the Broadway cast ofAin't Too Proud, taking over the role ofOtis Williams.[12] He remained with the production until it closed.[13]

In summer 2021, Walker starred asSweeney Todd in theHangar Theatre production ofSweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.[14]

Walker returned to the Broadway production ofHamilton on March 1, 2022, in the role of Aaron Burr. He starred in the production through February 26, 2023.[15]

Walker performed as Sir Galahad in theWashington, D.C., production ofSpamalot at theKennedy Center in May 2023.[16] He continued in the role when the production moved to Broadway in the fall of that same year.[17]

In the summer of 2024, Walker is set to play Count Carl-Magnus inA Little Night Music atOgunquit Playhouse. He also appeared in theApple TV+ movieThe Instigators starringMatt Damon.[18]

In addition to his career as a performer, Walker is a professor atNew York University.[19]

Personal life
