Niemierzyn (Polish:[ɲɛ.mjɛˈʐɘ̟n]) is a part of the city ofSzczecin,Poland situated on the left bank ofOder river, north-west of theSzczecin Old Town andDowntown.
The locale'sdesignation in the Polish language derives from theSlavicgiven nameNiemir.
The area became part of theDuchy of Poland under its first rulerMieszko I around 967,[1][2] and following Poland's fragmentation it formed part of theDuchy of Pomerania. During theThirty Years' War, the settlement fell was ruled by theSwedish king, but stayed part of theHoly Roman Empire[3]. Later on, it passed toPrussia, and until 1945 was part ofGermany, within which it was known asNemitz.
The abandonedtramdepot at Niemierzyńska Street nowadays houses theMuseum of Technology and Transport of Szczecin.
