French drag queen
Karl Sanchez (born 14 March 1991), known by the stage nameNicky Doll , is a Frenchdrag queen , television personality, and musician based inNew York City . He is best known as the main host ofDrag Race France twelfth season ofRuPaul's Drag Race
Sanchez co-created, co-wrote, and stars inLes Voyages de Nicky LGBT activism in different countries.
Sanchez was born on March 14, 1991, inMarseille, France ,[ 1] St. Martin andMorocco .[ 1] Spanish .[ 2]
Sanchez trained to be amake-up artist . He created his drag persona in 2009[ 1] Féroce Magazine ,[ 3] Cosmopolitan [ 4] Volition Magazine [ 5] [ 6] Nicki Minaj and is meant to evoke versatility and reflect the different personalities Sanchez's drag persona exhibits. Sanchez self-describes Nicky Doll as a 90's life-size doll.[ 7]
RuPaul's Drag Race [ edit ] Nicky Doll's participation on season 12 ofRuPaul’s Drag Race was announced on January 23, 2020.[ 8] French contestant on the US version of the show.[ 9] [ 6] [ 6] [ 10]
Nicky Doll was eliminated at the end of episode 5 and placed eleventh overall. During her time on the show, Nicky Doll was in the top once, and in the bottom two times. She successfully lip-synced "for her life" againstDahlia Sin in episode 3, toProblem byAriana Grande featuringIggy Azalea . In episode 5, she was unsuccessful in her performance againstHeidi N Closet to the song "Heart to Break " byKim Petras . As a result of his appearance onDrag Race , Nicky Doll was hand-picked byRuPaul to doPete Davidson 's makeup for a pre-recorded sketch on an episode ofSaturday Night Live [ 11]
Drag Race France ,Les Voyages de Nicky and other TV appearances[ edit ] In March 2022, Nicky Doll was announced as the host ofDrag Race France [ 12] Drag Race France [ 13] Drag Race France All Stars Drag Race France .[ 14] Drag Race France Live tour after the airing of each season, with performances in most major French cities as well as a few stops inBelgium andSwitzerland .[ 15] [ 16]
In 2023, Sanchez co-created and released a 4-part documentary series entitledLes Voyages de Nicky , which follows Nicky Doll as she explores queer communities around the world. The first season showcasesIndia ,Greece ,Mexico , andJapan .[ 17] Chelsea Film Festival in New York City.[ 18]
In May 2024, Nicky Doll provided commentary for the French broadcast of theEurovision Song Contest 2024 semi-finals onCulturebox .[ 19] 2024 Summer Olympics torch relay inArles , France, becoming the second drag queen to carry the Olympic torch.[ 20]
On July 26, 2024, Nicky Doll was a part of the fashion runway and dance (Festivité ) segment for the televisedopening ceremony of the2024 Summer Olympics and performed her newly released single, "I had a dream".[ 21] Laurence Fox calling Nicky Doll and other drag performers "deviant little pedos" onTwitter during the opening ceremonies, Sanchez filed acomplaint in defamation towards Fox and other social media users on August 2nd. Sanchez commented "I’m about to sue you again for defamation – the same exact topic that you were sued on and lost," in reference to a case won by Canadian-British drag performerCrystal against Fox for similar remarks.[ 22]
Sanchez came out asgay at the age of 18.[ 1] San Francisco in 2015, before moving to New York in 2017.[ 1]
