Nicholas Patrick Day (born 16 October 1947) is an English actor, who is currently the narrator on theNetflix seriesMyths & Monsters and also starred as Anthony Fox inITV soapEmmerdale.

Life

Day was educated atAlleyn's School, aprivateday school in the South London suburb ofDulwich, before studying at theUniversity of Bristol acting with their drama department.[1] Day was a supply teacher atPlumstead Manor School for Girls' for a brief time during the early 1980s, where he taught drama.[citation needed]

Acting

He is perhaps best known for playing Detective Sergeant Michael Morley inMinder from 1991 to 1993. He also played Deputy Assistant Commissioner Donald Bevan in Series One of the BBC dramaNew Tricks. He portrayedJack The Ripper, in series six (episode five) ofGoodnight Sweetheart in 1999, and played another police officer, DCS John Meredith, in a single episode ofFoyle's War in 2008. In 2009 he appeared inMargaret andThe Take, and as Martin Crisp inThe Dogleg Murders (Series 12 ofMidsomer Murders).

His film roles include appearances inPenelope Pulls It Off (1975),The Golden Bowl (2000),Russian Dolls (2005) andAmazing Grace (2006).[2]

In 2010 he played Colonel Montford inJoe Johnston's horror filmThe Wolfman.[2]

In 2013, he played the headmaster inAlan Bennett's playThe History Boys atSheffield'sCrucible Theatre.

He also worked with theRoyal Shakespeare Company for seven seasons including the World Shakespeare Festival, working on classics likeThe Tempest andTwelfth Night.[3]

Since 2015 he has presentedMurder Maps, which is made byNetflix in theUnited Kingdom and is now in its fifth series in the UK.Murder Maps is also shown onYesterday. In 2021, he narratedRailway Murders.[4]

2020s

Day played Anthony Fox, the father of Ruby and grandfather of Stephanie, in ITV soap operaEmmerdale. The character was killed off when it was discovered that he had sexually abused his daughter and was actually the father of Stephanie.
