Newcastle Interchange is atransport interchange serving the city ofNewcastle, New South Wales, Australia. It serves as the terminus forCentral Coast & Newcastle Line andHunter Line train services,Newcastle Light Rail services andNewcastle Transport bus routes.
Located in the inner Newcastle suburb ofWickham, it is to the west of the formerWickham station. The railway station opened 15 October 2017 with light rail services commencing on 17 February 2019.
As part of its plans to revitalise the Newcastle central business district, theNewcastle railway line was closed east ofHamilton on 25 December 2014 to allow construction of the Newcastle Light Rail line.[3][4][5] Included in the project was a transport interchange.[6][5][7]

The design for the new interchange was released byTransport for NSW in July 2015.[8] Originally to be named Wickham Transport Interchange, in December 2015, Transport for NSW lodged a proposal with theGeographical Names Board of New South Wales to have the station name changed to Newcastle Interchange.[9][10] This was confirmed in December 2016.[11][12]
Construction commenced in May 2016 after being delayed by a legal challenge to the line's closure.[13] The railway station was opened on 15 October 2017 by then Transport MinisterAndrew Constance.[14][15] Light rail services commenced on 17 February 2019.[16]
AWorld War I honour roll was placed at the end of platform 1. Originally installed at Wickham Superior Public School, it was donated to theNewcastle Museum after the school had to be demolished following the1989 Newcastle earthquake.[17]
