TheNew Left (Polish:Nowa Lewica,Polish pronunciation:[ˈnɔvalɛˈvi.t͡sa];NL) is asocial-democraticpolitical party in Poland.[8][9] It is positioned on thecentre[4] orcentre-left of the political spectrum.[5][10][11] Its leader isWłodzimierz Czarzasty.[12]
It was formed in 2021 as a merger of theDemocratic Left Alliance (SLD) andSpring, although the plans for the merger began in 2019.[13] It is a part ofThe Left coalition. It holdspro-European views.[5]
Spring and theDemocratic Left Alliance (SLD) initially cooperated in 2019 during theOctober 2019 parliamentary election, as part ofThe Left alliance. After the election, the plan to merge the two parties was announced.[14] As a consequence, in 2020, SLD changed its name tothe New Left as the new party was to be based on the structures of the alliance. However, further plans concerning merger were postponed due to theCOVID-19 pandemic.
On 11 June 2021, the Spring's general assembly voted in favour of dissolving the party in order to merge with the SLD.[15]
In the2023 Polish parliamentary election,The Left coalition technically participated as the New Left party, whose list included representatives ofLeft Together,Labour Union,Polish Socialist Party andSocial Democracy of Poland.[16][17] It joined the four-party coalition that nominatedDonald Tusk as its candidate for prime minister. It received four seats inTusk's cabinet, withKrzysztof Gawkowski as a deputy premier. It is the first time a left-wing party has been in government since the SLD'slast government was defeated in2005.[18][19]

6 tysięcy członków to wcale nie mało jak na polskie warunki. Przypomnijmy, że Platforma Obywatelska ma 25 tys. członków, a PiS 48 tys. Konfederacja ma zaledwie 11,5 tys. członków. Jeśli dodamy do 6 tys. Razemitów 25 tys. członków Nowej Lewicy, to mamy trzecią największą partię w Polsce – po PiS i PSL (73 tys.).[6,000 members is not a small number by Polish standards. Let us recall that the Civic Platform has 25,000 members, and PiS has 48,000. The Confederation has only 11,500 members. If we add the 25,000 members of the New Left to the 6,000 Razem members, we have the third largest party in Poland – after PiS and PSL (73,000).]

Osoba mająca poglądy lewicowe, mogła wybierać między centrową Nową Lewicą, skupiającą działaczy byłej Wiosny i SLD oraz nastawioną bardziej społecznie partią Razem, tak czy siak idące pod jednym szyldem.
