New Hampton School is an independentcollege preparatory high school inNew Hampton, New Hampshire, United States. It has 330 students from over 30 states and 22 countries.[1] The average class size is eleven, and the student-faculty ratio is five to one. New Hampton School does not require a uniform.
New Hampton School is a member of the Independent Schools Association of Northern New England[2] and is accredited by theNew England Association of Schools and Colleges.[3] The school became an International Baccalaureate World School in 2010.[4]
New Hampton School was founded on June 27, 1821, as aFree Will Baptist-oriented,coeducational institution.[5] On that day the State ofNew Hampshire issued a charter to the New Hampton Academy, "having had three several readings," before the House of Representatives. That charter, issued to William B. Kelley, Nathaniel Norris and Joshua Drake, provided the framework for the institution that would become the New Hampton School and emphasized the "promotion of science and the useful arts."[5] The school was later known as the New Hampton Literary and Theological Institution. From 1854 to 1870, theCobb Divinity School was affiliated with the institute before moving toBates College in Maine.[6]
Between 1925 and 1970 the school was anon-denominational school for boys. It returned to coeducation in 1970.[7]
New Hampton School serves a wide range of learnings, offering theInternational Baccalaureate Diploma Program,[8] as well as an Academic Support Program with 30 years experience in serving students with diverse learning profiles. In 2022, the school launched an Entrepreneurial Studies Program that deploysBabson College's EPIC program and instills in entrepreneurial mindset in young learners.
The program admitsfifth-year senior basketball players who seek an additional year of preparation before entering a Division I career. Recent examples includeWill Davis and Travis Souza, both of whom went on to UC Irvine.[9]
Charles Silvia - Hall of Fame swimming coach for Springfield College swimming from 1937-1978, winning ten New England Interscholastic Team Championships. He was Athletic Director at New Hampton School from 1934-1937, where he coached baseball, basketball, and soccer.[17][18]
