Neuve-Chapelle (West Flemish:Nieuwkappel) is acommune in thePas-de-Calaisdepartment in the Hauts-de-Franceregion of France[3] It was the site of aFirst World War battle in 1915 about 8 miles (13 km) northeast ofBéthune and 16 miles (26 km) southwest ofLille.
In theBattle of Neuve Chapelle in the First World War, which began on 10 March 1915, it was captured.by theIV andI Indian Corps.[citation needed]
