Incomputing, netsh, ornetworkshell, is acommand-line utility included inMicrosoft'sWindows NT line ofoperating systems.[1] This command was officially launched with the release ofWindows XP in 2001, althoughnetsh did first appear onWindows 2000 in 1999. It allows local or remote configuration ofnetwork devices such as theinterface.[2]
A common use ofnetsh is to reset theTCP/IP stack to default, known-good parameters, a task that inWindows 98 required reinstallation of theTCP/IP adapter.
netsh, among many other things, also allows the user to change theIP address on their machine.
Starting fromWindows Vista, one can also edit wireless settings (for example,SSID) usingnetsh.[3]
netsh can also be used to read information from theIPv6 stack.
The commandnetsh winsock reset can be used to reset TCP/IP problems when communicating with a networked device.
