Nery Antonio Brenes Cárdenas, (born September 25, 1985) is aCosta Ricansprinter.[1]He is one ofCosta Rica's most prominenttrack and field athletes and reached the semi-finals at the400 m sprint in the2008 Olympic Games inBeijing.[2]
Brenes won thegold medal at the2012 IAAF World Indoor Championships inIstanbul, setting a new national and championship record.[3] "Brenes improved his personal mark by approximately one second, something nobody expected on a championship, taking the gold medal", cited his trainer and motivator AndrésOro Fijo Calderón.[4] He has participated in major events like the2007 World Championships in Athletics inOsaka,Japan, and achieved a 4th-place finish at the2008 IAAF World Indoor Championships inValencia, Spain. He also finished in 3rd place at the 2008ÅF Golden League meet inOslo,Norway.
