Nepenthes epiphytica is a tropicalpitcher plant known only from theBerau andEast KutaiRegencies ofEast Kalimantan,Borneo, where it grows at an elevation of around 1,000 mabove sea level.[1] Prior to itsformal description as a species,N. epiphytica was considered to be a variant of the closely relatedN. fusca.[1]Nepenthes epiphytica belongs to the loosely defined "N. maxima complex", which also includes, among other species,N. boschiana,N. chaniana,N. eymae,N. faizaliana,N. fusca,N. klossii,N. maxima,N. platychila,N. stenophylla, andN. vogelii.[1]
Thespecific epithetepiphytica refers to theepiphytic habit of this species.[1][3][4]
