Nepenthes ceciliae is a tropicalpitcher plantendemic to thePhilippine island ofMindanao, where it grows at 1500–1880 mabove sea level.[1][2] Its discovery was announced online in August 2011.[3][4]

Nepenthes ceciliae belongs to the informal "N. alata group", which also includesN. alata,N. copelandii,N. extincta,N. graciliflora,N. hamiguitanensis,N. kitanglad,N. kurata,N. leyte,N. mindanaoensis,N. negros,N. ramos,N. saranganiensis, andN. ultra.[5][6][7][8] These species are united by a number of morphological characters, including wingedpetioles,lids with basal ridges on the lower surface (often elaborated into appendages), and upper pitchers that are usually broadest near the base.[5][6] In their original paper defining theN. alata group,Martin Cheek andMatthew Jebb treatedN. ceciliae as possiblyconspecific withN. copelandii.[6]
