Neodymium oxyfluoride or neodymium oxide fluoride is an inorganic compound ofneodymium ,oxygen , andfluorine with the chemical formulaNdOF .[ 1]
NdOF can be synthesized by pressing a mixture ofNd2 O3 NdF3 [ 2]
Nd2 O3 + NdF3 → 3NdOF Physical properties [ edit ] Neodymium oxyfluoride exhibits three distinctcrystal structures , all based on the cubic fluorite arrangement. Among these, two correspond to the stoichiometric compound NdOF:cubic andrhombohedral . The third structure, which istetragonal , emerges under conditions of fluorine excess relative to NdOF and exists over a range of compositions.[ 3]
Neodymium oxyfluoride has attracted significant interest in the areas of anionicsolid electrolytes ,luminescent materials,catalysis , andmagnetic materials due to its unique structure, which combines the beneficial properties of rare-earth cations with fluoride (F⁻) and oxide (O²⁻) anions.[ 4]
