Nelaug is a village in the southern part of the municipality ofÅmli inAgder county,Norway. The population (2001) was 161.[2] The village lies at east of theNelaug lake, which is regulated by ahydroelectric power plant. The most notable feature in the village is thetrain station,Nelaug Station, which is the junction between the mainSørland Line and the branchArendal Line. Nelaug school is a 1st through 6th grade elementary school. It is one of the three schools in Åmli municipality. Nelaug sits at the end ofNorwegian County Road 412 which connects Nelaug to theNorwegian County Road 415 and the rest of Norway.
TheOld Norse form of the name must have beenNiðlaug. The first elementNið is the old name of the riverNidelva and the last element islaug which means "lake".[3]
