Ned Long is a professionalAustralian rules footballer who plays for theCollingwood Football Club in theAustralian Football League. He has previously played forHawthorn.
Long represented Victoria in the Under 15 School Sport competition alongside futureHawthorn teammateJosh Ward. Long had impressive early in 2021 until injury saw him drop down the ratings in the eyes of recruiters. Overlooked in the main draft Hawthorn selected him with their first pick of the rookie draft. He was educated atNorthcote High School andMelbourne Grammar.
Long was selected byHawthorn with their 5th pick of the2022 rookie draft.[1] He made his debut in round 23 of the2022 AFL season, in which Hawthorn played theWestern Bulldogs atUniversity of Tasmania Stadium inLaunceston.[2] In October 2023, Long was delisted by the club after playing five senior games.[3]
Two months after being delisted by Hawthorn, Long joinedCollingwood'sVFL side.[4] Five months later, he was promoted to the club's senior side through the2024 mid-season rookie draft using their 19th pick.[5] He made his debut for the club in round 17 of the season againstEssendon at theMCG.[6]
