Nebula is afederalcloud computing platform that originated atNASA Ames Research Center atMoffett Field, California.[1] Nebula hosted many advanced research projects. One application Open Sourced byNASA and developed by the Nebula project, Nova, became one of the two founding projects of theOpenStack project.[2][3]

History

The Ames Internet Exchange (AIX), was formerlyMAE-West, one of the original nodes of theInternet, and is a major peering location for Tier 1 ISPs, as well as being the home of the "E" root name servers. The AIX provides connectivity to the Nebula Cloud, enabling10 Gigabit Ethernet connections toNISN.

The Nebula-Project uses a variety offree and open-source software.
