Nazir Ahmed is a Pakistani politician who is the Speaker of theGilgit Baltistan Assembly since June 2023. He had also been a member of theGilgit Baltistan Assembly from November 2020 to November 2025. Prior to being elected Speaker, he served as the Deputy Speaker from November 2020 to June 2023.
Ahmed contested in the2020 Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly election on 15 November 2020 fromGBA-20 (Ghizer-II) on the ticket of thePakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). He won the election by a margin of 1,767 votes over the runner-up Khan Akbar Khan of thePakistan Muslim League (Q). He garnered 5,582 votes while Khan received 3,815 votes.[1]
He received twenty-two votes to be elected as the Deputy Speaker of theGilgit Baltistan Assembly on 25 November 2020, while his opponent,Rehmat Khaliq, only revived nine votes.[2]
On 7 June 2023, after a successful no-confidence motion againstSyed Amjad Ali Zaidi, the then Speaker of the Gilgit Baltistan Assembly, Ahmed was elected as the new Speaker, unopposed.[3][4]
