NTOU was originally established as theProvincial Taiwan Maritime Technology College in 1953. In 1979, it was renamedNational Taiwan College of Marine Science and Technology . Ten years later, the institution underwent another name change, toNational Taiwan Ocean University .[ 3] A satellite opened onBeigan, Lienchiang in July 2019 as the first university campus on theMatsu Islands .[ 4]
