Nathangelo Alexandro Markelo (born 7 January 1999) is a professionalfootballer who plays as amidfielder forEerste Divisie clubVitesse. Born in the Netherlands, he plays for theCuraçao national team.
Born inGroningen, Markelo was signed by English clubEverton in 2017 after being scouted playing in a youth tournament forFC Volendam.[2][3] He moved on loan toFC Twente in July 2020.[4]
He signed forJong PSV in August 2021 on a permanent deal.[5]
On 9 July 2022, Markelo joinedExcelsior on a three-year contract.[6] At the end of the 2022–23 season, his contract with Excelsior was terminated by mutual consent.[7]
On 3 August 2023, Markelo signed a contract withFortuna Sittard for one season, with an option to extend for two more years.[8]
After one season at Fortuna, Markelo joinedEerste Divisie clubRoda JC on 27 June 2024. He signed a two-year deal, with an option to extend for one more year.[9][10] He made his competitive debut for the club on 4 October, replacingJay Kruiver in the 80th minute of a 3–0 victory againstExcelsior.[11] The contract with Roda was mutually dissolved on 22 January 2025.[12]
Later that month, Markelo signed forBulgarian First League clubHebar Pazardzhik.[13]
In September 2025, Markelo joinedEerste Divisie sideVitesse.[14]
Born in the Netherlands, Markelo is of Curaçao and Surinamese descent.[15] He has represented the Netherlands are various youth international levels.[16] He debuted with theCuraçao national team in a friendly 3–2 loss toIndonesia on 25 September 2022.[17]
His younger brotherJahnoah Markelo is also a footballer.[18]
