Nathan Lee William Harriel (/ˈhæriəl/HARR-ee-əl; born April 23, 2001)[4] is an American professionalsoccer player who plays as adefender forMajor League Soccer clubPhiladelphia Union and theUnited States national team.
Harriel appeared as an amateur player forUSL Championship sideBethlehem Steel during their 2019 season, as well as being part of thePhiladelphia Union academy.[5][6]
In 2019, Harriel verbally committed to playcollege soccer atClemson University.[7] However, on July 17, 2020, Harriel signed withPhiladelphia Union as a homegrown player, beginning from the 2021 season.[8] They acquired his homegrown rights fromOrlando City SC in exchange for a first round2021 MLS SuperDraft pick.[9]
Harriel was first named to senior matchday squads during the2021 season, and made his senior debut on September 3, playing at right back.[10] Both players who had played in the position during the season,Olivier Mbaizo andAlvas Powell, were away on international duty.[11]
In January 2024 he was selected for the senior United States squad for a match againstSlovenia.[12]
