Nasi tempong (Javanese:ꦱꦼꦒꦠꦺꦩ꧀ꦥꦺꦴꦁ,romanized: sega témpong;Pegon:سيجا تمبونغ) is anIndonesian rice dish, typical food ofOsing people inBanyuwangi, consisting ofsteamed rice with boiledvegetables (includes boiledspinach,cosmos andbasil leaves),tofu,tempeh,corn fritter andfriedariid catfish. This rice dish is served withkencursambal[1] orterasisambal.[2][3]
The "tempong" term is a word in theOsing language which means "to be slapped" inEnglish. Thus the nasi tempong is named because of the spicy taste ofnasi tempong which gives a sensation like being slapped.
