Nashville is a town in and thecounty seat ofNash County, North Carolina, United States. The town was founded in 1780 and features Victorian and Queen Anne–style homes. It is part of theRocky Mount metropolitan area. The population of Nashville was 5,632 in2020.[5][6]
The town was founded in 1780, and is named forFrancis Nash, an officer of theNorth Carolina militia who died in theAmerican Revolutionary War.[citation needed]
According to theUnited States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 3.0 square miles (7.8 km2), all of it land.

As of the2020 United States census, there were 5,632 people, 2,284 households, and 1,423 families residing in the town.
As of thecensus[4] of 2000, there were 4,309 people, 1,629 households, and 1,124 families residing in the town. Thepopulation density was 1,425.2 people per square mile (550.3 people/km2). There were 1,751 housing units at an average density of 579.1 per square mile (223.6/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 54.82%White, 43.10%African American, 0.30%Native American, 0.58%Asian, 0.60% fromother races, and 0.60% from two or more races.Hispanic orLatino of any race were 1.25% of the population.
There were 1,629 households, out of which 32.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.4% weremarried couples living together, 16.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 31.0% were non-families. 28.4% of all households were made up of individuals, and 11.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.43 and the average family size was 2.98.
In the town, the population was spread out, with 23.7% under the age of 18, 7.1% from 18 to 24, 30.4% from 25 to 44, 22.5% from 45 to 64, and 16.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females, there were 89.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 84.4 males.
The median income for a household in the town was $36,371, and the median income for a family was $44,180. Males had a median income of $32,282 versus $22,176 for females. Theper capita income for the town was $18,603. About 9.5% of families and 10.5% of the population were below thepoverty line, including 10.0% of those under age 18 and 15.6% of those age 65 or over.
The Nashville Blooming Festival was founded in 1997, and features food, music, vendors, a parade, and a carnival.[9]
TheBissette-Cooley House,Nash County Courthouse,Nashville Historic District, andRose Hill are listed on theNational Register of Historic Places.[10]
