Raoul Cesar "Nash" Escueta Racela (born November 30, 1971) is a Filipino professionalbasketball coach.

Nash Racela was a graduate of De La Salle University before taking on a career as a coach. He also coached thePhilippine squad that participated at the2016 SEABA Cup.[1]

Coaching career

Batangas Blades

Racela started his career as assistant coach ofBatangas Blades (Later renamed as LBC-Batangas Blades for sponsorship reasons), when Binky Favis was coaching the team.[2] When Racela took over, withEddie Laure as its star player. Racela won his MBA Coach of the Year in 2001.[3]

San Beda

He served as head coach ofSan Beda Red Lions after replacing Jonathan Reyes,[4] but fired and replaced byKoy Banal in 2005.[5][6]

Assistant coach

Racela became an assistant coach of theCoca-Cola Tigers on its inaugural season, until 2006 (that time coached by Favis), when national team head coachChot Reyes, assistant coachesBiboy Ravanes, and Aboy Castro joinedSan Miguel Beermen.[2] He and Castro also joinedTalk 'N Text when Reyes hired by that team, served for the team for almost a decade and won championships.[7]

FEU

He was hired by theFEU Tamaraws in2013, and led the team into multiple final four appearances, a finals runner-up in2014,[8] and a championship in2015.[9]

TNT KaTropa

After coaching FEU, he later coachedTNT KaTropa, led them to afinals appearance,[10] but dismissed before thenext season'sGovernors' Cup.[11]

Blackwater

[edit]

He later coachedBlackwater Elite,[12] but fired after two seasons due to team's dismal performance.[13]

Adamson

[edit]

He is now coaching theAdamson Soaring Falcons.[14]

Personal life

Racela is the younger brother ofOlsen Racela, who is a former professional basketball player and took over Nash's position as the head coach of theFEU Tamaraws until 2023. He is a cousin of collegiate basketball coachYuri Escueta.[15]
