NGC 7171 is abarred spiral galaxy in theconstellation ofAquarius. Its velocity with respect to thecosmic microwave background is 2388 ± 24 km/s, which corresponds to aHubble distance of 35.22 ± 2.49 Mpc (~115 millionlight-years).[1] It was discovered byGerman–British astronomerWilliam Herschel on 12 August 1787.
According to theSIMBAD database, NGC 7171 is an activeSeyfert 2 galaxy.[2]
Onesupernova has been observed in NGC 7171: SN 2023yoo (type Ia, mag. 17.339) was discovered byATLAS on 28 November 2023.[3]
