NGC 5896 is a smallspiral galaxy located 953 millionlight-years away in theconstellation ofBoötes.[2][3] The object was found on 23 May 1854 byR. J. Mitchell, an Irishastronomer and assistant toWilliam Parsons.[4] At aredshift of 0.065, NGC 5896 is one of the most distant objects in theNGC Catalogue.
According to sources, the neighboring galaxyNGC 5895 and NGC 5896 form an optical pair.[5] But the latter is much further, and it is considered as a background galaxy.[4]
