NGC 538 is abarred spiral galaxy in theconstellation ofCetus. It is located about 250 millionlight-years from theMilky Way[2] with adiameter of approximately 95,000 ly.[citation needed] NGC 538 was discovered by the AmericanastronomerLewis Swift in 1886.[3][4][5]
NGC 538 is estimated to be about 2.5 billion years old.[6]
