NGC 4461 (also known asNGC 4443) is alenticular galaxy located about 50 millionlight-years away[2] in theconstellation ofVirgo.[3] It was discovered by astronomerWilliam Herschel on April 12, 1784.[4] NGC 4461 is a member ofMarkarian's Chain which is part of theVirgo Cluster.[5]
NGC 4461 is in a pair with the nearby galaxyNGC 4458.[6] It has undergone a tidal interaction with NGC 4458.[7]
