NGC 4179 is alenticular galaxy located in theconstellationVirgo. It was discovered byWilliam Herschel on January 14, 1784.[5] It is a member of theNGC 4179 Group of galaxies, which is a member of theVirgo II Groups, a series of galaxies andgalaxy clusters strung out from the southern edge of theVirgo Supercluster.[2][6]
