NGC 3817 is a barredspiral galaxy located approximately 91.7 million light-years away in theconstellation Virgo. It was discovered by the German-British astronomerWilliam Herschel on March 15, 1784, using his telescope inSlough, England. Classified as aLINER-typeActive Galactic Nucleus (AGN), NGC 3817 exhibits low-ionization nuclear emission lines from its core. With an apparent magnitude of 14.4, the galaxy features a faint ring structure and loosely woundspiral arms.[1]
