NGC 3156 is alenticular galaxy located in the constellationSextans.[5][6][7] It is located at a distance of about 75 millionlight-years fromEarth and is forming a pair withNGC 3169. It wasdiscovered by astronomerWilliam Herschel on December 13, 1784.[8]
It is a member of theNGC 3166 Group of galaxies, which is a member of theLeo II Groups, a series of galaxies andgalaxy clusters strung out from the right edge of theVirgo Supercluster.[9][10]
