NGC 1979 (also known asESO 487-24) is alenticular galaxy in theLepus constellation. It is about 78 million light-years from theMilky Way.[4] It was discovered byWilliam Herschel on 20 November, 1784[5] and its size is 1.8 by 1.8arc minutes.[3]
