Navalpakkam Ramanuja Tatacharya (1928 – 2017) was aSanskrit scholar from India. He received the Chevalier ofLégion d'honneur[1] which is the highest civilian honour of France. He was a researcher at theFrench Institute of Pondicherry. He was the first Vice Chancellor of the Kendriya Sanskrit Vidyapeeth, holding the office between 1989–1994.[2] In 2016, he was awarded thePadma Bhushan, the third-highest civilian honour of India for his contribution to the field of Sanskrit literature and education.
Tatacharya was born on 16 April 1928 in theNavalpakkam village in theNorth Arcot district inTamil Nadu to U.Ve.N.S. Krishnaswamy Tatacharya and Rajalakshmi.[1] He died on 5 June 2017 in Mumbai.[2]
