När is a populated area, asocken (not to be confused withparish), on the Swedish island ofGotland, with 413 inhabitants in 2014.[2][3] It comprises the same area as theadministrative När District, established on 1 January 2016.[4]
TheNär Lighthouse is located east of the village onNärsholmen.
När is the name of the socken as well as the district. It is also the name of the small village surrounding the medievalNär Church,[5] sometimes referred to asNär kyrkby. It is situated on the east coast of Gotland.[6]
As of 2019[update], När Church belongs to När-Lauparish in Burspastorat, along with the church inLau.[7][8]
