Myron Bohdanovych Markevych (Ukrainian:Мирон Богданович Маркевич; born 1 February 1951) is a Ukrainianfootball manager and former player. He last managedKarpaty Lviv.
He has worked as a manager in theUkrainian Premier League[1] and for theUkraine national team.[2][3] He holds the record for coaching the most matches (500 as on 15 August 2011) in the Ukrainian Premier League.[4]
A formermidfielder, he made 59 appearances in theSoviet Second League forTorpedo Lutsk.
Markevych played as amidfielder forKarpaty Lviv (reserves),SCA Lviv,Spartak Ordzhinikidze, andTorpedo Lutsk.
Markevych graduated from the Institute of Physical Education inLviv and theSupreme school of coaches inMoscow in 1983. He has managed a number of teams, devoting most of his career toKarpaty Lviv andMetalist Kharkiv. He most notably served as manager ofDnipro Dnipropetrovsk, where he reached the2015 UEFA Europa League final.[5]
Markevych was appointed head coach of theUkraine national team in early February 2010,[6] but left six months later,[3] submitting his resignation to theFootball Federation of Ukraine (FFU) by fax on 21 August 2010. Initially, the legal department of FFU stated that such a document could only be submitted in its original form and the fax copy could not be accepted.[7][8] Ultimately, the FFU accepted his resignation and appointedYuriy Kalitvintsev ascaretaker manager.[9][10]
In June 2023, Markevych returned for the fifth time toKarpaty Lviv,[11] but resigned a year later.[12]
Markevych is of Polish descent by maternal grandfather.[13] He is fluent inEnglish andPolish. He is married and is the father of two sons,Ostap Markevych andYuriy Markevych.
