Saint Michael's Square (Ukrainian:Михайлівська площа,romanized: Mykhailivska ploshcha) is a square inOld Kyiv,Ukraine. Located in theShevchenkivskyi District ofKyiv, the square lies in front ofSaint Michael's Golden-Domed Monastery. It is located about 300 m (1,000 ft) northeast ofSophia Square, to which it is connected byVolodymyrskyi Passage [uk], and about 450 m (1,500 ft) northwest ofMaidan Nezalezhnosti, to which it is connected byMichael Street [uk].
On the square isa monument [uk] toPrincess Olha,Andrew the Apostle, andSaints Cyril and Methodius. There isa memorial [uk] to the victims of theHolodomor in front of the monastery. Also, one of the monastery's external walls bordering the square serves asThe Wall of Remembrance of the Fallen for Ukraine, aRusso-Ukrainian War memorial.
The square served as one of the fan zones during theEurovision Song Contest 2017.[1] Since May 2022 it hostsdestroyed Russian military equipment exhibition that features Russian military equipment captured and destroyed during the2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine.[2]
