Yingvirus is a genus ofnegative-strand RNA viruses which infectinvertebrates.[1] Member viruses have bisegmented genomes. It is the only genus in the familyQinviridae, which is the only family inMuvirales, which is the only order inChunqiuviricetes. There are eight species in the genus.[2]
The nameYingvirus derives from嬴 (yíng), the ancestral name ofDuke Mù of Qín during theSpring and Autumn period, along with-virus the suffix for a virus genus.[3]Qinviridae gets its name from秦 (Qín), meaningQín State, added to-viridae the suffix for a virus family.[3]Muvirales is from穆 (Mù), again for Duke Mù of Qín, along with-virales the suffix for a virus order.[3]Chunqiuviricetes is from春秋时代 (Chūnqiū Shídài), or Spring and Autumn period, attached to-viricetes the suffix for a virus class.[3]
Yingviruses have linear,negative-sense, bisegmented RNA genomes.[1] Genome lengths for four member species are:[4]
