Muscular liberalism is a form ofliberalism advocated by formerBritishPrime MinisterDavid Cameron that describes his policy towardsmulticulturalism.[1]
Cameron coined the term in a speech inMunich on 5 February 2011. According toDavid Cameron, "Under the doctrine of state multiculturalism, we have encouraged different cultures to live separate lives, apart from each other andapart from the mainstream. We've failed to provide a vision of society to which they feel they want to belong."[2]
The theory is that multiculturalism has shifted from tolerating multiple cultures to tolerating multiplevalue systems, which can behostile to liberalism.[3]
Cameron delivered these principles during a speech on Radicalization and the causes of terrorism at the 47thMunich Security Conference in 2011 to tackle growing terrorism so as to be less passive towards religious hate and whip against growing extremist activists through muscular liberalism.
FormerPresidentNicolas Sarkozy ofFrance has said that he agrees with Cameron.[4]
Peter Hoskin has expressed the opinion that "muscularliberalism" will be the new "ism" whichBritain will follow to tackle growingreligious terrorism and extremism, subsequently adapted by allEuropean countries includingCommonwealth Nations.[5]
