Murali Sharma (born 9 August 1972) is an Indian actor who works predominantly inTelugu andHindi films.[1][2][3][4][5] Sharma has starred in over 130 feature films includingTelugu,Hindi,Tamil,Marathi,Kannada andMalayalam cinema.[6][7]

Sharma gained wide recognition in television withDoordarshan'sPaltan in which he plays the lead role of Col.R.S. Sajwan. Sharma has appeared in varioussoap operas such asGuns and Roses,Siddanth,Laagi Tujhse Lagan,Mahayagya,Viraasat,Zindhagi Teri Meri Kahani,Rishtey,Humne lee hain shapath, andRangeela Ratan Sisodia.[2][3]

Early and personal life

Murali Sharma was born on 9 August 1972 inGuntur,Andhra Pradesh and was brought up inMumbai.[8][9] His father, Vrijbhushan Sharma isMarathi, while his mother Padma isTelugu and comes from Guntur.[10] Sharma calls himself a "Bombaywala". He completed his bachelor's degree, and studied acting at the Roshan Taneja Acting School in Mumbai.[11][12] He is married to actressAshwini Kalsekar.[13]

Career

Murli Sharma appeared as Captain Khan in the 2004 Bollywood movieMain Hoon Na alongsideShahrukh Khan.[14] In 2007, he had roles in the Hindi moviesDhol,Dhamaal,Black Friday, and the Telugu moviesAthidhi andKantri. He received aNandi Award for his dual role of Kaiser/Ajay Shastri inAthidhi. In 2008, he made an appearance in theBollywood filmJaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na and appeared inGolmaal Returns andSunday.

In 2011, Sharma had supporting roles inSingham,Oosaravelli, starringJr. NTR andDhoni in Telugu. He continued to work in Hindi and Telugu, and in 2012 he had his first role in aMalayalam filmKarmayodha starringMohanlal. In 2013 he also worked in the Tamil and Marathi film industries.

In 2015, he had larger roles inGopala Gopala andBhale Bhale Magadivoy. He also worked inBadlapur,ABCD 2, and the Tamil filmPaayum Puli. In 2016, he appeared inKrishna Gaadi Veera Prema Gaadha,Savithri,Sanam Teri Kasam andWazir. He also did main role inDJ: Duvvada Jagannadham (2017), in 2018Agnyaathavaasi andVijetha, in 2019Saaho, in 2020Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo,Sarileru Neekevvaru andStreet Dancer 3D. He played role of Valmiki in the movieAla Vaikunthapuramloo.[15]

In 2021, he appeared inA1 Express,Sreekaram,Jathi Ratnalu andChaavu Kaburu Challaga.

Awards

He received theNandi Award for Best Villain in 2007 forAthidhi.[15] He also received theFilmfare Award South andSIIMA Award for Best Supporting Actor – Telugu forAla Vaikunthapurramuloo in 2021.[16] ‘New Life Theological University’ awarded Murali Sharma an honorary doctorate for his contributions to the welfare of society in 2021.[17]
