Munz Lakes is a small lake located directly on theSan Andreas Fault in the northernSierra Pelona Mountains, withinLos Angeles County, California.[1]
The lake is one of a series ofsag ponds created by activetectonic plate movement of the San Andreas Fault in the area, which also includeElizabeth Lake andHughes Lake. They are part of the northern upperSanta Clara River watershed.[2] The lakes at times dry up for years.[3]
The lake, at 984 m (3,228 ft) in elevation, is protected within theAngeles National Forest.
Munz Lakes receives its name from rancher John Munz, who arrived in the area in 1898.[4]
